i recently purchased my first bike. had wanted one for a long time and finally took my own advice and got one. my wife says i should wear a full head face helmet, but i have heard that they cut down on visibility. most of the guys i see on street bikes are wearing half helm, and rice rockets have full head gear. i am not apposed to wearing the full helm, especially on the highway, but wanted to hear what other people thought. thanks, GTG
I have a FF and a shorty...both are fine with the vision...The peripheral vision in a FF is fine...Wind noise in a Modula (flip up) is a bit higher than a traditional FF.
Personally , I wear a ff all the time. I was hit by a car in 81 and had just that morning bought my first ff. I hit the window post flat across my face and flipped over the car.
My wife and I both will not wear anything else.
I worked a bike vs deer wreck last sunday and the lady rider slid face down for 30 ft, she had a walmart/cheap ff and it ground down to the padding but it saved her face, if she had been wearing anything else she would have had major face trauma.
Yes they are hot in the summer but a little discomfort is worth it to me.

FF is the way to go. Better helmets have better ventillation. Google up helmet weights and you'll find good info on all types of lids.
FWIW, I ride in full armored gear.
FF offers the most protection is a crash or fall. Myths about them limiting peripheral vision or hearing are just that, myths. Peripheral vision is the same as you'd have without a helmet as long as you put them helmet on with the large opening facing forward. The wind noise in your ears at 60 mph is far more limiting of your hearing.
Only you can decide with what level of risk you are comfortable. Try different helmets and decide what you like the best.
