92 softail, 14k miles, inherited the bike. Well taken care of. Once in awhile while travelling 50mph or so the bike would lose power like the key was turned off. After pulling over, waiting about a minute, bike would fire back up and take off. During this "black out" period nothing worked, like the battery was disconnected.
Recently the issue has gotten worse, stranded me three times on a short ride tonight. In addition the headlight/taillights stopped working but the brakes/blinkers/horn still work.
any suggestions on where to start to get this corrected ?
Thanks!

Check to make sure both battery cables are clean and tight. Pay special attention to grounds on both ends. I would suspect a relay first. Then I would suspect a circuit breaker next. Problem is it is intermittent. Hardest thing to find and solve.
That year used poorly crimped wire terminals attached to screws on the ignition switch. Pull the dash and wiggle all the wires going to and from the switch. Ray
Sounds like it could be the circuit breaker...I believe on that year it is located behind the splash shield in front of the rear tire...A real pain in the a$$ to get to...The symptoms you describe point to the circuit breacker.

I just fixed a problem very similar to yours. The only difference was all my electrical systems still worked. I have a '98 FLST and it would quit like it had a vapor lock. After a cooling off period, it restarted and ran fine for a time. I eliminated circuit breakers, carburetor, coil module, ignition module, plugs and fuel system. The problem got progressively worse. I finally had the pulsur module replaced, about $170.00 + 2 hours labor, (located behind the riveted cover on the right side of the engine) and my Softail is running like new.
