It has been posted before that that counterbalancing sucks out some of the power, so since the motors are already rubber mounted, touring bikes need the extra power to propel the their heavier weight more than they needs extra vibration insulation.
What he said +1. I just traded my 09 SG for an 09 FLSTC and I can feel the difference in power. The Heritage is smoother but even with the stage one it still feels a bit slugish after riding the SG.
Haven't gotten around to taking pics of the new ride. The red SG is gone.
The shake goes away once moving , and why give power up at a standstill so the metric riders are happy? Not like they are giving you enough power to start with , besides if I want a vibration free girly bike I'll buy a damn honda!
Haven't you noticed that HD hasn't got any real "options" other than trim? The Softails are counterbalanced because it would be impossible to keep the engine and that huge swingarm in line if they were rubber mounted; on the rubber mounted bikes the engine, trans and swingarm all float/shake together on the mounts...that's why the various "aftermarket" mounts are offered for them. Why would you offer expensive engineered "options" for a few that might want them when your getting fantastic returns on paint and chrome??? That's why we don't get bikes like the FXDX/T any more.
I think the Heritage Softail qualifies as a touring bike, lots use it for that.
I miss the shake of my Evo. I been thinkn about lossenen up the Motor Mounts to see if I can get mine to shake a little more. I'm still a firm believer that chains belong on the outside of a Motorcycle Engine and Radio's belong in cars......Period!

I would either like a Road King with a "B" engine or a soft tail with a 6 gallon gas tank. Why is that so hard for HD to offer?
After all, 60 some what horse power give or take one or two isn't going to make a huge difference in performance. Heck there are automatic scooters out there that will dust our stock big twins in acceleration and in top end.
I didn't buy a Harley for speed. If I wanted speed I'd save a few grand and would have bought a Ninja ZX-14 or a Hayabusa. I'm no longer in such a rush getting somewhere, well ok maybe a little. I just need to stay ahead of the cagers and I'll be happy.
