Default Winter storage

I have an 09 dyna super glide, as much as I hate to see cold weather I have a question on storage. I live in central Illinois gets cold here, my garage is not heated but is secure and dry, is it ok to lay up the bike for winter in cold storage and anything special I would need to do. There is heated storage available here, but is about $250-$300 for the season and no access until you take it out in spring. Appreciate any comments........

I would leave the tank full of gas with the appropriate amount of Seafoam (or some other sort of fuel stabilizer) in it, make sure the bike is cleaned up, and put an automatic style of trickle charger on the battery (to keep the charge up thus keeping it from freezing). Some say get the bike up off the cement during the winter by jacking it up and leaving it up, but I never have and have never had problems with my tires. Btw, I lived in Michigan most my life, so I am well versed with winter storage in extended/extreme cold....lol

With your space I would add a trickle charger, some steel wool and some gas stabilizer.

Keep the battery charged, put the steel wool in a ball in the exhaust pipes and stabilizer in a full gas tank.

Mice suck.

I sometimes park the tires on plywood if its going to be a while. Depends how offen you change tires.

Thats all,

Mike

Fuel stabilizer and a battery maintainer. Also change the oil before you store it.
If it interests you, Heated storage at Reiman's Harley in Kewanee is $150 Nov1-April1.

Yep, forgot to say 'change the oil and filter' or to add steel wool to the muffler openings. I also set several packages of Decon on the floor all around my bike. I hate meeces to pieces.........lol

Winter storage?

Whats that??????

My Harley's are bikes, not bears... They don't need to go into 'hibernation' during the winter. Around here in the lower midwest it can be down to zero (or below) one day, and up into the 30's or 40's a few days later.

If it's in the 30's or higher, and the roads are clear, it's riding time......

But I do keep all my bikes on battery tenders year around, so I guess that can be considered my 'winter preperation'....

Don't forget to spray the bike down, mainly just the chromed parts, with WD40 to ward off the rust from condensation. Some people even say to cover the bike with a breathable cover/sheet with a work light left one under the bike. I agree with others though....Full tank with stabilized gas, battery tender in cold storage, new fluids/oil filter, steel wool in the mufflers, and possibly putting bike on a jack/plywood/carpet/etc to keep it off the concrete.
