First, congrats on the new ride and that sounds like a very good buy. Second, I would do as previously posted and put some miles on it and then decide what are your priorities for the bike. If you decide to put the $3K into performance, you can do some good things for that amount.

Take the 3K and buy a used R1 or CBR1000 or similar sportbike. Yes this is the answer as you will recieve a whole motorcycle with more power than you will ever get out of a 45 degree v-twin. While i guess it may be possible, it won't happen for 3K! Or, if you are totally averse to metrics, apparently you can get a new Buell for way cheap, and they have powah!

Could Stage III be had for that much? Additionally, what should I be checking or concerned about for this model with these models?

Lots of questions I know, but in spite on NOT being a new rider, I have no mechanical know-how whatsoever. Please advise. Thanks.
Me too, have nothing to know about the mechanical or whatsoever... But, one thing is for sure, I might advise to you, listen to the expert and just listen to your heart. I know you can do it!
