My wife has the same bike. She loves them. Rode today started out in the 40's ended up in the 60's. She took them off before we started home just to be sure.

Put mine on Sept.1st for road trip.
Still on, never took them off.
Road in 65 - 75 degrees, No problems!
Oil temp never went over 180 on the road.
Crept up to 200 in slow traffic.
If you look at the air-flow, it actually funnels more air towards the engine.

My $0.02

I was thinking the same thing. The engine guards are shaped in a way that the likelihood is, they'd deflect more air in the direction of the engine rather than away from it. I'd guess the warning to take them off in hot weather is more of a CYA than a real problem. They don't work too differently than lower fairings, and those are often kept on year-round.

Not sure what a CYA is, but also worth mentioning is these things act like a big kite against the wind. They hurt your mileage a bit and they are pushing some wind. Not a horrible thing, of course,.... but enough for me to not want to run them if I don't need them. If it's warm out, I don't run them. They come off easy enough,
No need to get them all covered with bugs if they aren't keeping cold wind off of you.

True, but I know many that do take them off. It's usually the low mileage guys that leave them on.
Also, the hard lowers are a lil more aerodynamic.

One thing great about these soft lowers, they store real well in the saddle bag and are real handy to have on those fall days when the sun drops!

I've been using chaps from Sage Brush Designs for the last 4 years. Great in cool/wet weather. They seem to raise the oil temp by about 20 degrees, but that's never proven to be a problem. I haven't noticed any significant decrease in fuel mileage when I have them on.

Two pairs arrived in the post today from Airlite - fitted one pair to wifeys Sportster and the other waiting for my SG

I can't see the heat problem, as mentioned further up ^ Ultra's would be running with lowers anyway and these Airlites have a big mesh panel - went on very easy

Default leather engine guard chaps

look up Chillhowee Leather. I have BRAnd new beautiful leather ones with chonchos that I should sell. They are very expensive new but theyare great quality. The leather fringe and chonco would look great on your bike. I bought them for my roadking, but I couldn't pass up a buy on an ultra, so good by roadking. Look around these are nice and they are now for sale
