http://www.drawtite.com/sawh.html Check these out. I have two on my bike. I have them mounted at the end of the engine guard bar. I have had 4 times deer have either stop at the edge of the road or run away and back into the woods. I believe they work. To those who don't, you are entitled to your opinion. I am glad you are ok.
Thanks for all the well wishes.
As to the questions? Yep. Have 2 Guardian bells. One came on the bike and the other my wife got for me. Figure that they had to have helped some. Things could have been much worse. It's a 55 mph road and I usually do at least that when I'm in my car, truck or work car. We had hit a max of about 45 on the road and then slowed some what. When my buddy braked I couldn't see what he saw but just assumed it was a deer and I had dropped to about 30. I was probably at 35 when I first saw him brake. I think he missed one and another came out between us. I know that if you see one, count on at least 2 others being right near by. Problem is I didn't see the one he saw. I just could tell by his actions he saw something and assumed it was a deer.
As to keeping the meat. No I didn't tho in hindsight I probably should have. According to the Trooper it was the first day of hunting season in MD. At least first day for rifle since I know bow and black powder started a while back.
I went back to the area to look it over and I'd say the bike and I both slid about 20 feet after impact so I doubt I could have been going too fast. I know I had just looked at my speed then saw him brake, I throttled back and then bang.I also noticed that it's only on about 1/4 mile stretch of road with seed scattered on both sides. Mostly where it's an embankment on one side and a sound barrier wall on the other and it's right where the wall ends on the north side then picks up on the south side. I really think some jerk (being nice again here - substitute your favorite choice of word) scattered feed corn on the roadway.
I'm going to try and upload some photos if I can ever figure out how to get them into a post. For right now I just want to get the bike fixed and get back to riding. Just no nights for a while
Must have been Jethro Tull. I am glad to see that you came out okay though but that just plain sucks that you had to endure the 4 legged rats. I am curious if it was someone putting feed besides the road and why would someone be so stupid
Gotta say, trucks do indeed tend to drop stuff along the road, but it's not been witnessed to me that any could drop it on both sides. Inertia from the centrifugal force would only push it onto one side. Yep, thats the way I see it. If there isnt an S-Curve there, then some moron either thought it was a good idea to feed bambi or a disgruntled home owner tryin to get revenge for being woke up cuz the sound barrier didn't help.
Course, we all know there are those real sicko's who derive pleasure from other's misfortune. So, there's that also...
I think it might be a good idea to call the trooper who was on scene and maybe put a bug in his ear, that it should be investigated.
Glad you're OK, Grumps. I try not to ride so much at nights, but if I have no choice then it's my worst fear of crashing into deer or go over a roadkill when I'm going 70 on the highway. Done that with a woodchuck as I went Yikes...Bam, I hit it and kept riding. Just pure luck I guess.
From: Creektown aka Lower Alabama, but not that low
Yep, seeing that bike spin behind you is a sick feeling. Walking away is the reward. Glad you're not hurt worse. Get back on as soon as you can manage it.

Having a deer alert matters not around here. I haven't seen a deer alert of any kind that works. There are lots of deer here and being hunting season, lots of them are crossing highways, streets and county roads. Since the first week of September, there has been 7 motorcycle deer collisions. One of them was a fatality for the motorcycle rider.

Glad you are OK and +1 to that post about the first deer being the decoy for the second. If you spot one, guaranteed there is a second not far - and likely ready to do something stupid. Sometimes I think they have a Kamikaze gene in them where they just decide to die by taking you out. Glad you came out on top this go around.
