I have been riding since I was 12 years old I'm 48 now. I never used chaps always had a village people stereotype to them. The other night took ride the temp dropped to 34. My upper body was warm with layers but my legs got very cold not enough to ruin my ride but cold. Buddy told me to use chaps anybody else agree with this. Had long John's but doesn't stop wind. Also how are they in heat do they help with the sun on the legs.
I only where mine when it is cold, they are great windbreakers for the legs. My butt cheeks still gets cold though, so I may need to start wearing some pants under them.
you would be amazed at how effective chaps are at stopping the wind chill. I have a very thin set of chaps that stop any wind from cutting through my jeans....A whole new comfort level......nothing gay about being comfortable in 34 degree weather. At 60 mph the wind chill drops the temp down 20 degrees(Scientific fact). So, that brings your riding temp down to 14 degrees.....I would wear rainbow colored chaps before i rode in 14 degree temps

That was funny!!
Wear leather "over pants" basically leather blue jean, zippers all the way up legs, easy on, easy off like chaps but keep the "twins" warm, also azz protected more in case of long slides on pavement. chaps look good on the wife though, even if worn over other garments!!!!!
Yep, I wear my chaps quite often........for warmth in the chilly weather,
and also for leg protection for any road debris or low flying critters that may hit the legs at 60 mph.
When the temps really drop, I'll wear flannel lined jeans under my chaps...
Used to wear chaps for the cold riding. They do work. Now have textile pants with armor and padding which cut the wind. Wear them ALL THE TIME. They are cool in hot weather (have zip outs to reveal ballistic mesh) and cut the wind in cold weather. http://*******.com/ycw4zr4
In warm weather I do not wear jeans under them. Only in VERY cold weather do I wear pants under them. Wish I had had them a long time ago. Not having to carry chaps on trips means that much more room in my saddle bags.
Chaps do three things - 1st breaks the wind and cold -2nd helps protect your legs from stones and bugs -3 helps give you that xtra layer of skin if you have to lay your scooter down- called road rash- the hell with what you towns people think-leave the curling iron at home your a biker now!!
