I didn't expect anything at all, other than the motorcycle that I bought. The extra goodies were just the icing on the cake to me and I didn’t say “NO” when the dealer asked if I wanted them. It would not have bothered me at all if they never even offered them to me in the first place. I did receive a replica AMA Flat Track Racing #1 plate autographed by both Scott Parker and Kenny Coolbeth a few weeks after I bought my XR1200 and that was quite a nice surprise. SWEET!
I was reading the thread asking what your dealer does when you buy a new HD. That got me to thinking. Now don't get me wrong, I too "expect" some free stuff everytime I buy a new Harley, esp the t-shirt(s) and have always gotten stuff. BUT with that said why do we really expect that and why do we get so upset if we don't get anything? I mean think about it. Depending on what Harley you buy it cost you $7K-$28K (Non-CVO cause CVO bikes come with extras anyway). BUT with that said we spend a lot more on cars, trucks, and SUV's and don't expect anything but the keys and don't get upset about it. I know on my last HOG 2 months ago all totaled with extras I spent about $22K and WANTED that damn t-shirt. But I spent $65K last year on an Escalade and didn't expect a dang thing. Kinda crazy when you think about it.
Maybe GM did not think someone buying an Escalade wore t-shirts
Last time I bought new,I was a happy camper, dickering for me is always a treat.Half the fun of buying any new vehicle is watching the sales people squirm.Always get at least 2 dealers working against each other.
I paid $14,500 for the damn t-shirt and they threw in a motorcycle and a free screw you on my credit end.
I'm not complaining, I signed the papers and love my bike, but I learned my lesson and won't EVER buy a bike on credit again. When my Superglide gives up the ghost, I plan on buying me a Sucker Punch Sally Sled with cash and that'll be IT.
Think about this: Nothing is free! I would rather they reduce the price of everything to a reasonable cost, then I will buy what ever trinket I want later. You are paying for it whether you believe it or not.
