I also live in the ATL area, Johns Creek. Since I've got the new bike and the heated liner and gloves, I'm able to deal with the cold, but still only down to maybe 35-38 deg! Seems I get cold easily but compared to before this is great. The face mask (purchased at a sporting goods store) really helps!!
I am looking out the front window... snow on the ground, roads solid ice, and it 26 with 20mph winds..... Thinking I am content..... right here..... but missing the rumble....
Your going to love the windshield in the winter time and then in the summer time you"ll find out it keeps the bugs out of your teeth. I couldn't even think about riding in the winter without a shield. Try it you"ll like it!
I got one of the quick detach windshields and I *plan* on taking it off during milder weather. I usually like having the wind blast against me when it's nice outside and joke that windshields are for cars. We'll see how I feel once I get the windshield in place.
I ride year round... hot or cold, dry or wet. I won't do snow or ice but that's not a huge issue here in Middle TN.
No windshield here. I do wear a full face helmet. No leather here but I have a heated jacket liner and glove liners (though I wasn't able to use my gloves on yesterday's frigid ride). I wear cold gear under armour clothing under my clothing, wool socks, and the HD rain gaitor/boot coverings (so I don't melt my pants against my new pipes which are significantly closer to my mid-controls) and they keep the wind and rain out.
I look like a marshmallow in the winter months but I don't care. I love to ride!!
A set of carhart bib overalls do wonders on cold days especially if like the other poster, you work in an office setting. Layer up and consider a full face or at least a full helmet with faceshield. Invest in gloves. If your fingers are cold, you're sunk. Plastic bags inside your shoes will also help keep the feet warm and dry if needed. High this week in S car. is suppossed to be 40's with lows in 20's. Some mornings that f150 just feels nice. I still like toride every chance I get even if its just a 30 minute ride to keep the battery charged and fluids circulated.

We're looking at -1 tonight with snow on the roads. The temps you guys are saying are spring and fall here and I ride in them. But I think I'm in the car until at least March. When I retire I'm going south.
