with this one or similar? http://www.rei.com/product/777759

I already use this REI backpack that I got on sale for $129, $80 off list, during
REI's Labor Day sale http://www.rei.com/product/757777

Both the shoulder straps and the belly band easily detach so they aren't in the
way and the pack has an internal, tubular aluminum, rear frame that easily
connects to the sissybar as well as a number of other good, external clip on
points so it's very easy to secure.

This was my first use of the backpack.

The saddlebags are now converted to Ghost Brackets and I was planning to sling
the sleeping bag horizontally atop one of them.

Any suggestions for a small camp stove? One that would be good enough to heat
water for soup or coffee? Like everyone, I have a classic Coleman stove but
it's too big.

Thanks!
That is the car camping tent I use and I love it.. In fact I have a theory about car camping which is if I back it in I take everything I want. So I put a raised aerobed sport in that tent and make it a hotel room for a week.. I have had it in some serious storms including one outside Ocean city on on an island. When I got back to camp most of the tents were destroyed and mine was standing and dry. One trick on it is tighten the rain fly so it is tight then the water rolls right off.. I wouldn't put it on my bike since it weighs 14 pounds but I have a sporster. I am attaching a pic of the tent at the beach on one of my trip (there is also a screen tent in shot like I said car camping means all out for me)

On stoves I have a version of this.
MSR WhisperLite Internationale Backpacking Stove .. http://www.rei.com/product/709000

Packs to nothing and then you grab a fuel bottle (a quick tip grab a second fuel bottle put gas in - then you will never run out of gas)- add a decent mess kit and you can cook anything but packs down to a really small size.. I am geek so I even have a folding spatula and stemless plastic wine glasses.

I also have heard great things about the Jetboil system (and the knock offs).. It contains the heat and the pot is part of the system.. YOu can even buy the coffee pot for it.. http://www.rei.com/product/791308tent camping-096.jpg

Here's one:

For camping, I carry only an Eureka 2-man tent, Thermarest mattress and folding camp chair. For food, I patronize local eateries.

Walmart sells a single burner stove that just attaches to a propane bottle. Works real well. thats what we use

Thanks again, Liz!

Back in the late 60s / early 70s I was a serious back-country hiker, but I'm far
more sedentary now. I'm actually pretty well set up for car camping and spent
about a week camping near the Oshkosh EAA Fly-in a couple years ago, but I think
we're alike in that, if I have a car, I see no reason not to toss in everything that
might be useful. That ain't gonna work on the Superglide.

I'm in the process of planning a mid-April 4,000 mile, 12-14 day solo trip through
Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam,
Death Valley as well as the Joshua Tree
and Gila National Parks. I'm planning to stay in motels, but I'd like to have the
option to camp overnight if arrangements don't work out or I just get the urge
to do something different.

For me this ends up causing the gadget girl in me to some out.. The right gear for the right situation is always fun.. It is why this bike will bankrupt me

If you looking for a tent just as a back up go small but don't skimp on a sleeping pad (one night in a tent without one will likely be a freezing one even in the summer)..... If you aren't using it much you will just be annoyed if the camping gear is a huge pain in the butt on the back of your bike.

i have had the Whisperlite for 20 years, and would never trade it. http://www.cascadedesigns.com/msr/st...erlite/product
i have used the whisperlite in many countries around the world. i have the multi fuel international, as i was in the army, and never quite knew where i would end up. it burns white gas, kerosene and unleaded!!!

the basic stove that uses white gas is a great unit. i like it better that the ones that sit on top of a can of propane. just personal preference.

I find when biking and camping to get a room every 3rd day or so. just to get a really good nights sleep and a warm shower without the public shower thing.
