I have a brand new (not even picked up until I come home on R&R) 2010 Dyna Wide Glide and my dad has a 2006 Road King Classic that will arrive back in the states from Germany soon as well. We are both in Afghanistan so there will be no riding for us for a while. They will both be in a garage and I plan on hooking battery tenders to both, but my dad mentioned getting some covers. Have a California Car Covers custom cover for my 2004 2500HD, but wanted to see if anyone has any good/bad experiences with particular covers for possibly long term storage.
Mine are nearly always covered when I'm not riding them. The Ironhead is covered with an old quilt. The RKC is covered with a fancy heavy duty cotton canvas, fake sheepskin lined HD one....When I'm on a trip, I cover what ever bike I'm on with a cheapo nylon cover that packs down small enough for travel.
Thank you for your service!!!! Cover must be breathable & tented over the bike, not in contact with paint if possible.
I used my truck canopy & 4 posts to hold it up so I could ride under it. I sheeted it with ply wood on the sides & a tarp on each end for easy entrance & exit.
Stay safe, Semper fi
Hatch.
Our bikes are never covered unless we're on roadtrips. I don't trust even the so called breathable covers to prevent condensation. I've seen the results of people keeping cars under covers. Rust and paint rubbed off from the wind.
