Maybe... just Maybe she's a Harley person! They have no desire to own or ride anything else. I mean she just won't feel right, there will be something missing, bad karma etc if she rides the Honda. get her a hog, she deserves it

Remember Kevin Nealon from Saturday Night Live and his subliminal news report?....
I think you may have missed the real issue (shes a selfish) and in your understandable love for Harleys (gold digger) may think a Harley makes a better (that is after his money) beginners bike.
Heck, I bought my wife a 454 LTD kawa as her first bike. I'll pick it up saturday, and then I'll have to wotk on it quite a bit. I think that it is plenty of bike for her (5 foot 3).
Riding a harley should be a goal. If your OL don't appreciate what she has, then maybe it's time for her to move her cute lill **** to the nect credit union, get a loan and buy a Harley on her own.
What I really can't stand are ungratefull and demanding people. That's an arrogant and absolutely unacceptable attitude.
I am happy that my wife is a humble and (to a certain extend) normal woman.
Just my 02.

Reason: wrote "bikes" not "wifes" dohhh
Take the Shadow back, get your money, and put the 5500 down on a 2004 Sportster. If she is that interested in riding, she'll learn fast, if she drops it, sportster parts are cheap..
That's a sure sign your in for a disappointing life with an ungrateful woman.Cut your loses now before she gets half of everything you own in divorce court.Let her get a job and buy her own ****.G.
Dude, don't sugar coat it; tell us how ya' really feel about it. I'm so glad you like me, G. Obviously we're not married LMAO!
He has a point. If anyone had gone out and bought a bike, any bike for me to begin with, I would have been thrilled and ridden the hell out of it until I could get what I really wanted. Just sayin'.

i dont know the OP or his lady friend, but my knee-jerk thoughts were:
anyone who DOESNT RIDE is not allowed to make generalizations as to what constitutes a "real biker", nor what they will or will not do. talk about not having a dog in the fight! IMO, a "real biker" (not to mention a "real girlfriend") would appreciate the gift for what it is, and not be materialistic and ungrateful.
the honda shadow is a good learner's bike, not to mention a nice bike in general. you would be able to sell it used without a hassle and upgrade to a bigger/better bike later.
again, i dont know the OP or his gal, but if anyone was ever that ungrateful to me after receiving a gift that nice/expensive, i would probably show them the door.
comparison: i bought an ex of mine a 250 honda nighthawk for $1000 and she loved the snot out of it.
