I have an opportunity to buy a pair of Brooks Chaps from a friend's shop for $93. They retail on Brook's site for $229. I have read a couple of bad things about the craftsmanship. The leather feels top notch. I can say that the Brooks jackets they had in stock were nowhere near the quality of my fox creek jacket. Fox creek chaps are $198 though! Should I take the good american made Brooks chaps for $93 or just pony up for the fox creek? Any experience with Brooks chaps anyone?
No experience with the chaps but I have had a Brooks jacket for about 20 years and it has held up very well. It is not my only bike jacket so I don't wear it a lot and the leather on the Brooks is much lighter (thinner) than my Harley, Vanson, and Langlitz jackets. The Brooks construction is very good however.
Both of my friends have Brooks chaps, both have had problems with the snaps coming apart and one of them had the leather stretch out on him, they would flap like crazy in the wind. I would just laugh with my Leather King ones I bought new for $60.00.
One of the best buys I ever made was some very high quality leather chaps at Sturgis. The leather vendor there tried them on me, and made sure they fit perfect. At $100, I thought that was a little high, but the quality is more than outstanding. Shop around, and do yourself and buy good quality leather when you do get it. The thrill of getting a good deal soon wears off when the reality of poor quality sets in....

Given the choice between good, average or bad it's just best to pony up. It's your *** (and legs) after all. Keep in mind that even the best chaps are limited by how well they'll stay on in a get-off. Our store sold the quality product for over $200 until they became near unattainable. Once we finish our close-out on these puppies that's it. Fully recommend armored leather or Cordura pants over the assless variety anytime.
