A friend of mine has to choose between his wife and his HDs. We spend many nights talking of what he was going to do. He is a hardcore biker too. He has been riding since he was 12. He grew up in a biker home and was around bikes all his live. It is a big part of his life. He got into a small accident last month and his wife told him it was her or his bikes. The sad thing is that there are three kids involved and he just doubled his square footage of his house.3500 sq ft. He lives in Cali and you all know what that means. 50%. plus god knows how much child support. To him it is cheaper to keep her. His kids are begging an pleading them to work it out but the wife is stubborn. The crazy thing is that they never had a problem in their 12 years of marrige. They always seemed so happy together. I guess things change. I think he is going to cave in and get rid of the bikes. Such a sad situation to see a person who lives for the ride go down like that. I guess I am one of the lucky ones because my wife loves to ride. She owns her own bike so she knows what riding means to guys like us.
That is a sad situation and unfortunately I think that he'll lose either way he chooses. By choosing her he'll deny a part of himself and he won't be happy. By choosing the bikes he'll lose his family and he won't be happy. That's a hard decision indeed. I hope everything works out for him.
Her statement goes a lot deeper than the bikes. If he thinks it will end there, he's mistaken. If she truly loved him, she wouldn't give him such an ultimatum. If he rolls over on this one, there will be another demand just down the road, and it will continue until she finally finds a reason to justify what she's really looking for.
She's risking a marriage and sees terror in her kids eyes, yet won't budge over an effing motorcycle? Give me a break.
Sorry to sound so negative, but that's just the way I see it. YMMV.

I have to agree with you there JB. I really hope that won't be the case.
Just from my dealings in life and having gone thru a divorce years ago, with young children involved, I think he's got problems deeper rooted than just the HD's, he just does'nt know it yet. I could be totally wrong as I know nothing about this couple, but I just have a gut feeling on this one. With children involved it's always hard from either side, but I think she is looking for the easy way out, especially when she knows how much he loves his HD's. I hope they can work it out, for the children's sake, but like you said JB it's probably something she's looking for or something she's already found.
His wife's heart is in the right place, she does not want him to get hurt. But, she seems to be over protective to the point were she wants to impinge on his freedom for her piece of mind. Sound familier? I allow my wife the freedom to do things that she wants to do and I expect the same in return.
IF your friend's wife was mine, uh, but she would not have made it in the first place.
