Beer and Bikes
Plus, I've been in the xray bidness for about 10 years and worked a level 1 trauma er. No way I wanna end up in one on a backboard.
Now, I do drink beer (although I'm partial to Guinness Stout), but I avoid poker runs like the plague because so many of them seem to end up in a contest to see who can swill the most beer at any given stop. And it always seems like the least proficient riders are those who drink the most. Then, on the way to the next bar, they want to ride two abreast on a single lane road, race like maniacs, etc. It scares the hell out of me because I've seen drunk riders go down several times.
I've been riding for 40+ years, and I have three personal rules whenever I get on the bike. Now, these three rules aren't for everybody, but they allow me to do something (riding) that I sincerely love doing, in as safe a manner as possible:
1. I never drink when I ride- not even one. I'm 5'10" about 245 so with my body mass (which could use a little decrease, quite frankly) I could consume a couple of beers and not be over .08, but that's not the point. The point is that my reaction time, reflexes, etc., would be hampered so I'm not going to chance it.
2. I always wear a helmet when I ride- always. Now I do not like helmet laws, but it's my choice and I choose to wear one.
3. Every time I get on a bike I sincerely believe in my heart that each and every car, truck, and bus is out there looking to find and kill me. It makes me drive very defensively, and that's the way I like it.
Riding is risky enough without adding more risk to it, in my opinion. Why would I want to risk not being able to do something that I've love for so long?

How much depends on a couple of variables for me. Is there food? How long amd I staying? Ill have 4 beers MAX if there is food and Im gonna be there a few hours. If Im just sitting around for a bit having a beer two is my max.
