Ride a Harley if that's what you want. But, don't be an *** telling people it's the baddest bike on the planet when you have no clue of what other brands are capable of. If you don't know, then don't talk.

Otherwise, I like Harley. IMO the best sound V-twin engine out there with Ducati coming in a close second.

I ride a harley for the same reason as the other millions out there do. Harley sells more heavy cruisers than all the other makes combined. Now why is that?

Default I've ridden for 30 years

Had 2 V65 Magna's (they were unbelievably fun) A Virago and a VMax that was everything you've heard about and now I'm on my 3rd Harley. I guess the only way I can describe (at least for me) the difference is, on the Japanese cruisers, you could hear the rev's. On the Harley's, you feel them.

Because when I was 7 yrs old I heard (what I thought at the time was) a helicopter landing outside the house. When I went outside to look there was my uncle pulling up on his brand new shiney 1968 electraglide. It was the most beautiful machine I had ever seen. Couldn't take my eyes off of it. Now I have an eglide.

Heh. I took a business class in college in which we had to do a group report on one selection of a group of companies chosen by the professor. Harley-Davidson was one of the selections and we decided as a group to do our report on them. I still have the Power Point presentation we did for that report. Never thought I'd have the chance to own one back then. That was just around the time that the V-Rod came out.

BTW, I own a Harley because they are the oldest existing motorcycle company and because they are a legend. Period.

Wait, there are other brands out there? NO WAY!!!
Seriously though, I'm 26, owned a; 82, 84 night hawk, 80 kaw 440 ltd, 92 ninja 750 RR, 64 sport, and now my 09 Night Train. I guess in the end i wanted to show that my generation actually has some people with good taste. Plus Harleys are from the dark side, and I like waffles!!!

I will give you a serious answer at least serious for me. A Harley is like a mechanical watch versus a battery watch. A battery watch will always keep more accurate time than a mechanical watch, but a mechanical watch has soul. Like antiques, the blues, smooth jazz, things made from metal rather than plastic. Like things that can be fixed instead of just replaced. Like a Norman Rockwell picture. That's what it's like for me.

There could be a lawyer, a plumber, a cop, and so on, in a group. You put them all on an HD and go for a spin and they all become the same person. The elitist crap just goes away.

The company has just embraced the culture that was created by all the riders when it comes to the marketing. It's a great thing in marketing to possess when someone says motorcycle and the first thing that comes to mind for most people is HD. But they have always stayed true to the consistency of the feel of anything that bears the name Harley-Davidson. That is why we will pay quite a bit extra for even the HD shwag. I have on an HD sweater right now. I have had this thing for 8 years and it's still warm, comfortable, and feels like a top quality item.

When you buy something that comes with the HD logo that has truly gone through the corporate approval process, you don't think that you have wasted any money. You paid for top quality and you got it, consistently.
While this is true in many circles, it is not true in all, unfortunately. You have to look no further than this very forum to realize how much inter-family segregation goes on based on the style of your bike, regardless of the fact that they are all Harleys.
