I'm finishing up a degree and one of my classes is a marketing class. Harley Davidson was brought up as one of the companies that good marketing has done justice to. I had my helmet sitting next to me cuz I rode that day. My prof asked me what I rode. I told her I rode a Harley. She asked why. Now,, I know why I ride one, but when asked that in front of the class,,, I froze for a minute. I was like a deer in headlights. I eventually said that I rode one because I love the feel of it, the sound, the ability to customize, the respectable brand name and the image that goes along with riding one. When I was riding home after, was thinking about that. I'm just curious, why do YOU ride a Harley?

actually, its not. The OP was asked a question by a professor, and it made him 2nd guess his own decision, and now, to compensate for the fact, that he couldn't just say, "Because it's my right as an American to do what ever I want to", he is trying to make the rest of us 2nd guess ourselves...
Something about having something with so much history that's truly uniquely an American creation like Jazz or the Blues, unlike anything else out there and is recognized world wide. AND - Just plain liked it better than anything else I had previously looked at.
The op may be legit, maybe he's attending one of those pc institutions where if your answer doesn't square with their norm, you fail the class. Been hearing alot about indoctrination at the colleges of late. I ride a harley cause it's what I want to ride. Got nothing to do with their marketing.
Because the OL and my Mom said, "Hell no" when I said I wanted one and now my Mom, at 82 gets pissed off at me when I don't take her with me on rides.
You gotta love it..

The reason I have enormous pride in riding a Harley is because of the community and support. I lucked out and moved to a town with a really awesome HOG chapter.
