I had it up for awhile as my avatar, a guy complained about a classic car on a Harley site, so I took it down

You got a sharp looking ride! GM may have not went bankrupt if they still built them with some chrome on them!

"It's got a cop motor, 440 cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks... "

"....built in the days before catalytic converters so it can burn leaded gas. The Mount Prospect Police department was practically giving 'em away....so what do you say? Is this the new Blues Mobile?"

First bike was a 400 Kaw (price). Bought a 850 Yamaha Special - bought it over a Harley Sportster (made by AMF). Then didn't ride much as my kids grew up. Finally, bought my first Harley - a 2003 RKC.

Why? It looked so cool sitting on the show room floor and it just called to me.

Now, why do I still ride Harleys? Because after I began riding them, I realized they have SOUL. None of the other bikes I've had gave me that feeling. I'm not sure if I could explain what "soul" is. Maybe it's the combination of the rumble, the vibration, the handling, the cool factor, the comraderie, the people asking you "is that a Harley". Not sure, but when I'm on it listen to the pipes, feeling the shake and low end power and the wind blowing by as I throw it into a curve, it's a feeling that I can't describe, but that gives me a high bigger than any drug.

It's got 'soul' .

You bought one because the ads told you to whether you want to believe that or not, without the marketing the brand would die.

+1 to all of the above. I really never wanted anything else. I really always wanted a Sportster too since it was always in the line up as I was growing up.

I bought one for one simple reason but keep it for other reasons as well.

First of all... it fit. At 6'5" tall not many fit my body and still had touring capacity. The Road Glide had this in spades.

I got as an unrecognized bonus.... good handling, super looks, and a unknown mistical quality that just appeals to me. It is ABSOLUTELY not the result of advertising. IN fact, I could not care less about the "Harley Lifestyle"

Before buying my Harley, I would have bought the Goldwing as first choice if it would have fit me because of its superior handling in the twisties, much superior power and great touring capacity. If the GW would fit me know however..... I would stick with my underpowered but viscerally incredible Harley.... cant expalin it.. it just is.

But to each his own.

R. Todd
