Angry A little help!!

Ok! I really DORKED today! I was getting ready to wash the ride, had it up on my floor jack, got on and of it a few times to make sure it was stable. I only have it up high enuf to keep it level.
I step back in the garage looking for the good wash stuff and I hear a CRUNCH! My bike had fallen off the jack!!! My wife came running into the garage from the house, even she had heard the noise. We picked it up and noticed right away, that so far, the only thing that broke seems to be the left hand grip.
My question is, how do you get the old grip off to put on a replacement? I have Kuryakens(sp) on it now. This of course could be a good time to get the heated grips I've thinkin' about. But that's a differant thread.
So a little help. please....

Good thing it was not on the throttle side, they are harder to remove. What I would do and have done in the past is simply cut it off with a razor knife.

Changing a grip is pretty basic stuff, shouldn't be a problem...

I don't mean to start anything, and I guess I can see that by putting a bike on a jack to wash it, you can get to every nook and cranny...

But it hardly seems worth the risk, in light of the chance of something happening to the bike...like the obvious...just sayin'...

Been putting my bike on the jack to wash it for years and years. Never had a problem. Don't really understand how it fell off. If it was sitting there level, what happened? Did the jack fail? Did a sudden gust of wind come up? Just interested so that it doesn't happen to me sometime.

I just put on some kury iso grips and my old grips i just twisted them back and forth and they slid right off as the glue broke free and they were the original factory grips.

I have washed my bike on my dads pitbull lift several times. I never get on the bike to see if its stable i just rock it a little bit. and then i rachet strap the bike to the lift so i know its not going anywhere when iam rocking it around and scrubbing on it. never had an issue.

Do you use tye down straps with the jack? With the tye downs the jack and bike both have to go over for the bike to fall.

Have had my left Kuryakn grip come off, after riding in the rain for 4 hours. The glue that came with my grips loosened up when wet, was cheap glue. Have also taken these grips off, intact, by twisting it back and forth for a long while. Wet it down good and twist away. Otherwise cut it.

Sorry your bike went over. I think everybody drops a bike one way or another sometime in their life.

Thanks for all the good tips, guys, I really appreciate it.
as for how it fell.....The only thing I can think of, is as I was checking the bike , I musta not had both of the tines on the jack under the frame completley. It sure felt stable as sat there, and I hadn't even started the beers yet! ( Believe me I had a few after that though, but they tasted kinda salty! Musta been all my tears.)
As for the tie down suggestions, WHERE WERE YOU WHEN I NEEDED YOU!!!!

I've found that acetone (finger nail polish remover) will soften many glues. Try and inject it inside the grip.

If it's a solid rubber grip I would cut it off. Then slip on the new one as per the instructions.

You're right though, this may a good time to replace them with heated grips..
