I put the Progressive front springs and the 412 rear shocks on my Sportster. Quite the difference. The front end dives a lot less in tight turns and under braking, and the rear end feels a lot more under control. The only thing I can figure out is that the shocks react a lot faster to the bumps and this helps keep the bike under better control. It feels a LOT better when I hit a bump mid-turn. Money well spent.
For the price of those 440's that are all the same, off-the-shelf, you can order a custom built set of Works or Ohlins. Much, much better options IMO. For more $$$, you can get more adjustability, or Ricor's brand new shocks. Race Tech fits in there somewhere too, but I'm not up-to-date on them. I have a Works front end kit, and it's great. Awesome guys to talk to also. I want Works shocks. But those Ricors are damn nice too.
Have the short (11"?) on wife's '04 1200C and it rides perhaps a little stiffer than stock longer shocks, seldom bottom corners feel better. Lowered front 3/4" -1" by sliding forks. Both springs rusted very quickly, within a year looked bad, and I am not a freak about perfection. Chrome on ends stayed OK. Have 422s on my Deuce front and rear, lowered 1 1/2" rear, 1" front or so...ride way better than stock seldom bottom, hard cornering feels more stable than stock. John
I don't know the model number, but I have the heavy duty, covered progressives on mine. It lowered the rear an inch and a half. I did not want to lower the front. Definitely stiffer than stock. It gives the look I want and rides well but if I want to go to the mountains for twisty riding I put the stock shocks back on so I can lean better.
Love my 440's. Just added the drop in fork springs and the ride is sweet. I think they are overpriced, but I've always been satisfied with them and never had any problems with leaking etc.
I have them on my '05 Sportster. They're a lot smoother than the stock shocks. You can get good deals on the net if you look. they are ALOT cheaper than Ohlins. I've also had Race Tech front spring inserts on on one of my former bikes ( '03 Suzuki 650S) and they were good as well
