Have used Maui Jims for the last 10 years and the optical quality is amazing compared to others. Not sure how well the wire frame will hold up as the tend to warp if the are flexed to much.

I have had a pair of Maui Jims for about 5 years and love them; however, the frames are really not sturdy enough for wearing with a helmut. Also, not much side protection from the wind.

i am not sure what people are talkin about that lenses scratch easy. i had a pair for 2 years. like a dummy i left them on a gas pump

mine were $189 i think.. they were glass..not plastic. best glasses i ever had. And i have tried alot. very durable. i even shut mine in my truck door.. with the spring hinges, i popped them right back in place.

there is no match for there polarization. look right in sun and you wont even squint.. only problem with any with glass lenses. little heavy but incredible against glare..since not dark..you can wear in low light conditions also.

Best I've ever owned, but I'm pretty careful with 'em so I can't speak to the scratching comments.

Default Glass or plastic

the ones I looked at were real light, so I think they were plastic. If you have glass lenses, are they Rx ones??

Maui Jims are my favorite. I'm on my third pair. Left the first pair on the hood of my Jeep, and they walked away. Second pair got a bad scratch on one of the lenses in Afcrapistan, haven't gotten around to sending them in for replacement lenses. Third pair (Kanaha really comfortable with helmet on) are still perfect after a year. I recommend the HCL Bronze lenses, really great contrast. All MJ's are polarized too, so they are great for fishing.

As a lifetime waterman, offshore saltwater angler and captain, I think I am qualified to speak on this. I know perhaps one out of fifty friends who wear Maui Jims and the other 49 all wear Costa Del Mars. (might just be a popularity thing, I dont know) As far as scratches, hey you have got to try to take care of any of them, real salty water day in and out will screw up a pair of anything quicklyand no quality shades are cheap! I have had about 6 or 7 pairs of costa,s thru the years and wear a pair of fathoms right now, have had hammerheads and a couple of other models in the past with the blue mirror coat. First time you wear a pair riding into bright blinding sun you will wonder why you never knew about these glasses before. As far as customer service goes, i thing both MJ and CDM as about the same. I have heard good things and bad about both and although i have no personal experiance with MJ , I have had both good and bad with CDM. (i have had blue coat start to peel and they fixed quikly no charge, i had a pair of hammerheads i drop in very cold weather and broke the frame and they would not replace but they were about 5 years old) I just wish I could afford a pair of perscription ones but they are expensive. I think you will be happy either way but costa is for me. again JMFUO
