the markup on custom wheels is completely insane, you aren't wrong for asking.
the aluminum cost is really next to nothing, you can get an idea of what a wheel blank costs (and these aren't even wholesale prices that manufacturers get) http://www.cv2customs.com/prodwheels.html

the time needed for *most wheels to be milled is in the range of 50min. to 120min.

so what you are really paying for is the "artistry" of the design and the dude's rent who made the wheel for you.

there is literally no reason why a set of wheels should cost 3-4 grand if you have any experience working in autocad. most local machine shops will be more than happy to mill you out a couple of wheels under the table in their spare time given that you provide them with the cad design and wheel blank. (collage or other school who has a workshop class chances are they’ll do it for free as a class project) *shrug*

You have shown the cost of the blank for sure. The wheel blank does not include the hub of course which I really wouldnt want being done as a quick class project. There is chrome or anodizing to be done as well. Just like any other business there are every day operating expenses as well.

Are we making money, of course, I dont think anyone expects to go to work for free. Are we getting rich, not even close.

I know that Harley Davidson made money off of me when I bought my motorcycle and I doubt they would have told me what it cost to make it if I would have asked. I bought what I wanted and was content with the price.

I know that custom wheels are not for everyone and as I stated before, I just wanted to show these new designs to those who might be interested.

Titan looks great. Have you considered a bolted version?

Thanks Shaved Ice!

Thanks Bear Bob - at this time we don't have plans to do a bolted version. However, who knows what the future holds

and by that statement i would put money that you are a former employee of RC components. I have family that has lived there for quite some time. My sister in law's husband is president of American Bank and Trust and my sister in law worked for saturn dealership and conducted all there advertising for them and the Martin group including the B.G. Harley store.

How long have you been gone?

I don't know. Using that website for pricing, you would have over $725 just in a blank+hub+tire. You would still have to add a couple of hours of machine time ($100-$200) plus chrome or powder coating ($100-$200). At a minimum you have $925 in the set-up. I have seen where some places are starting to get a little more reasonable with deals in the $2400 range. That only leave a couple of hundred per wheel for "gross profit". Now I am sure it is a little more as they get the parts at wholesale, but it does not look like they are making a fortune. I doubt they are selling hundreds of wheels per day.

You are correct Don. I did work at RC for several years. I left there in May of 2009 to join Coastal Moto but didnt relocate to Florida until early November. I won't elaborate on here but I can say it was a great move for me LOL

I am friends with the CEO of AB&T but not sure who the Pres. is.

Yes the Martin Group owns HD BG as well as HD Louisville.
