I have noticed that there are a lot of people who do not like the HOG organization and that is understandable. We are supposed to fit the mold of being free and independent BIKERS! In some of my posts of the past the ABATE group has been mentioned. I would like to ask where is the Hawaii chapter for that group? HOG is a national group with local chapters. Like all groups of people there are different characteristics of these groups. If you happen to find a group you like, GREAT. My point is that ONE SIZE DON'T FIT ALL!
For those of you who comment on things like patches, It seems to start a few conversations when my wife and I wear our Honolulu HOG vests on the mainland. People relate to use not being from the local area I guess. Some people make fun of the people who use microphones even, well, after 25 years of riding together we (my wife and I ) have discovered that it is FAR better to be able to talk to each other about the sites than screaming. It really has not got much to do with the group ride. I do like riding in a group though it does kind of remind me of possibly being in a flying formation.
I hope that we all like having the insurance companies and rule makers put more and more restrictions on us. Just look at the facts. Motor cycle riding puts us all at more risk of being hurt than the cage drivers. WE HAVE LESS PROTECTION SURROUNDING US. It is the JOB of these organizations to protect us from ourselves AND THEY WILL!
It is my understanding that HOG is supposed to be a tool to help show people that not ALL bikers are the 1% type and can be decent community members who happen to ENJOY MOTORCYCLES.
That all being said, we do not all have to Join the military to enjoy the freedom this country still has. Many people are allowed to just sit back and suck it up for free. I am glad for that I do not want everyone to have to go through what I went through for ten years while working on fast attack submarines. It is much nicer now getting on my ULTRA LIMITED with my wife of twenty years (I guess I fit the "old" part I am 45) and going for some weekend HOG rides. During the week I also battle traffic as I commute to work on the same machine.
As for not people not going to their local dealership, that helps too. I am sure they all manage to stay in business purely on bike sales. The other things they sale are just to line their FAT POCKETS.
TO THE OP; I am sorry that your dealership is gone and your chapter is lost. You are right that is should not be too big of a deal too allow a dealership to sponsor more than one chapter, but it is what it is. Hopefully you and your friends will still enjoy being a group of riders who have a lot of fun together. Sorry for the long post it's been a long weekend with the tsunami excitement. FLAME ON, WERE GOING TO GO RIDE!
More like a tool to help HD sell accessories, clothing and bikes.
I learned that when a local indy got kicked out for being a competitor.
Navy that is a fine machine.....I dig the wheels
It seems as though there are some clubs whose members claim they are 1%ers and they live opposite of the law abiding side of life. This was not a judgment on my part. just an observation that HOG does want the public to be aware that there really are a lot of decent people who do enjoy riding. In other words RIDING A BIKE DOES NOT MAKE US BAD PEOPLE.
I am happy that there are are so many people who are willing to share their thoughts and be independent. I am also glad that there are group of people who take an interest in preserving our ability to do so. I am sure there are PLENTY of JERKS out there who would be much happier if we ALL were not allowed to have bikes on public roads at all. I know that the doctors were practically in shock when my wife and I got back on two wheels after our wreck we were told over and over that we should have learned the MOTORCYCLES aren't safe. I guess we all just have to roll over and say never mind any responsibility for other drivers. So I just think it would be too easy to add another law to the list, wear Don't drive too fast, your seat belt, wear your helmet, don't change out that quite muffler, NO WAIT- DON'T USE THAT MOTORCYCLE ON A PUBLIC ROAD.
I hoped that my long messageS would get someone else to agree that it's not all bad to belong to a club and enjoy your Harley.
And yes, that is a nice ride NAVY!
