All good answers. I upgraded my 88 ci to a 95 big bore with the 301 cam upgrade over the winter. I was wondering if I now had bragging rights to a screaming eagle upgrade. The answer it seems in "no". It's a beefed up stock with a few SE parts.

The screaming eagle designation is a brand. It is also a branded version of a bike made by HD under their guidelines with screaming eagle accessories. Their are screaming eagle versions in every model if correct. These are bikes that have been built by the factory using the specific build and parts to screaming eagle specs.
Yes anyone can build a motor with these parts and a complete bike overhaul. However it would not be classified as a screaming eagle as one would from the factory. It would be classified as a bike with screaming eagle upgrades.
I agree. Anything else would be considered a clone or a wana-be.
That's would be kind of like my '07 F150 that I mounted a bunch of Harley-Davidson F150 goodies onto. It has HD grill, HD headlights, HD tail lights, HD interior and HD badges and more but that doesn't make it an Harley-Davidson F150.
As far as I'm concerned the difference between an S/E and a ordinary Harley is the same as a Mustang GT and a Cobra. Well first there is the price but secondly people who buy the S/Es and the Cobras are mostly people who dont do alot of modifications. They buy the better of the 2 and are happy with what they got and should be. And I think that the people that buy the regular Harley or Mustang GT like to tinker and upgrade their stuff and we know that we can end up with a better ride if we pick and choose what parts we bolt on. This is just an opinion not fact, And my reasoning for this is that I have friends that own Harleys and I have friends that own S/Es and the ones that own the S/Es dont really modd anything motor wise as all my friends with Harleys are always trying to make it better and faster. Some of us know that Harley still has to meet EPA regs even with the S/Es so you can for sure end up with a better performing bike with the right combo of parts that are not factory installed. The only reason I like an S/E over a Harley is that the paint on the frame matches tin colors. Thats one of the reasons I bought a black bike is so my frame would match my tins without having to waste money on an S/E that I would just tear down and rebuild anyway. Again this is just an opinion.

Uhhh......How can I explain some o' this agin.....gotta make this short/sweet cause in 30 min, I'm on the road.....ANYway.....while some of what you say is correct, like I said to another post'r...also made the ref to Cobra stang vs GT stang.....kinda the same thing.....ALL I can say is...."Ya gotta own 1 to appreciate 1" and believe it or not, their are guy's who buy these things (CVO's-Scream'n Eagles) that'll STILL spend 4-6K on'm before they ever leave the dealer.....exhaust/bigger cams/more headwork, etc all try'n to get up in the magic "over 100" HP/TQ class....the real magic # is about 125/125, respectively, and they achieve that by spend'n more $$. Not to make light of the stocker's, but you could spend buttloads o' $$ on'm and get the same #'s, but my point is , will "never" be a "Scream'n Eagle".....limited run factory custom's with a specific VIN# that designates it as such....also hold their value more than the stock counterparts.....just say'n......could direct ya to a site dedicated to these specific models, but would be against the policy of this forum, I think....anyway ,best thing to say is , GO to dealer, get on 1 and have sales dude show & explain all the differences, or better yet.....RIDE ONE!!!! Gotta go......C-ya!!
U buy the CVO bike that say's is a SE bike on the title,,,\
U can build up a reg bike and have one with some SE performance part....
I'd think that U'd have a bunch more $$$ in parts trying to make a reg bike look like a CVO compared to just buying one and then as stated above, lose U butt if U ever sold her...
The title of my bike in my sig pic doesn`t show anything with "SE" on it. It just shows the VIN, title #, body type (RS) and model (FLE). This bike was a factory built item, too. In fact, the only thing on this bike that isn`t factory is the derby plate (as shown enlarged in my avatar when the pic was taken on the bike I traded for the CVO)

Screamin Eagle has long been Harley's Performance Parts line. Several years ago they started to offer a limited number of bikes that were hand built with select Screamin Eagle performance parts, special chrome goodies, and custom paint sets. Later the Screamin Eagle line became the CVO "Custom Vehicle Operations" lineup that we see at dealerships today. Basically the CVO's of today are the same as the original Screamin Eagles of the past.
As for me, I like to build my own Screamin Eagle to minimize the cost and pay only for the options I want.
