Is there some line in the sand where a beefed up motor can be called Screamin Eagle, a certain number of engine upgradges the qualify it for being called a SE? Or it that name tag an all or nothing modication?

Reason: Clarity.
I thought it referred to an built-up engine that HD sold? I know one can buy SE parts and install them on their bikes... but, it doesn't make it a Screamin Eagle.
I alway thought "Screaming Eagle" originally refered to Harley's line of perfomance parts although H.D. has come out with their C.V.O. line of S.E. bikes which I assume are equiped with S.E. equipment.
Mine's equipped with S.E. parts so your guess is as good as mine.
The screaming eagle designation is a brand. It is also a branded version of a bike made by HD under their guidelines with screaming eagle accessories. Their are screaming eagle versions in every model if correct. These are bikes that have been built by the factory using the specific build and parts to screaming eagle specs.
Yes anyone can build a motor with these parts and a complete bike overhaul. However it would not be classified as a screaming eagle as one would from the factory. It would be classified as a bike with screaming eagle upgrades.
I may stand corrected, but I believe the screaming Eagle Engine is fabricated by Jims for Harley Davidson.
This may not be relivant to the thread but interesting

Well....Be'n as I own a CVO "Scream'n Eagle" ....I'll chime in...yeah, they are equipped w/ SE performance engines/parts.....YOU CAN have your engine upgrade to SE specs, (ie) cams/pistons/cranks/bigger bore,etc....you'll still have a "stock" VIN#.....won't get higher than dollar of a stocker on sale or trade.....IF...you have a true CVO,the vin # is "specific" as it holds a buttload more value than the stock counterparts....think of it as the difference between "regular" Mustang or "Cobra" Mustang...big difference as far as "worth". On another note, people think they can just "buy" the certain parts and "make" it a Scream'n Eagle..whatever....WRONG....certain parts are "VIN#" specific and can only be purchased with a CVO VIN#.....Ya can't even buy the dust cover for mine w/out the VIN#....just say'n.....stops everybody from "clone'n" the bikes....you get approx. 10-12K in upgrades with a CVO..color-matched frames, etc, etc......
All CVO's until the 08-09 model year were handbuilt by a 3-5 person "team"...they've since moved all that to the regular production line to cut cost's.....Hope I've answer'd some questions...C-ya

Wrong......Jim's motors are an independant shop under license fromm HD to produce "Big Inch" racing motors (up to 134",I think) and put the "JIM's" name on'm.....you can buy the Jim's motors direct from the dealer, also listed in the catalogue (SE parts catalogue)

U buy the CVO bike that say's is a SE bike on the title,,,\
U can build up a reg bike and have one with some SE performance part....
I'd think that U'd have a bunch more $$$ in parts trying to make a reg bike look like a CVO compared to just buying one and then as stated above, lose U butt if U ever sold her...
