Ah the infamous oil thread strikes again. I us the Mobil 1 15/50 from Malwart in both my bikes engines. I use to buy the 20/50 for $10 a quart too but I haven't noticed any diff at all. 5 quarts for $22 bucks is a steal. Almost enough to do both bikes. Unless you ride in 100 degree summers you wont know the diff either. I absolutely agree with taking good care of the toys but I also strongly agree with not wasting money.
I don't know im new to harleys and learning but I do know I have a v twin not a car , I like 20w50 and it is a lot cheaper to spend a little more now than buy a motor but to each there own thats why they make so many different kinds and gives us something to talk about during the winter
Thats a pretty good deal. I got mine for 9 dollars a quart. 20-50 Mobil 1 works great and would recommend it to anyone. Lets the enine run cooler and works great in the transmission for smoother shifting
Put in what ever you like. But Motor co. didn't reco. 20W50 for no reason.
But they also recommend 10W40 when the lowest ambient temperature is below 40 degrees, and a 60 weight when the lowest ambient temperature is above 80 degrees.
the V-twin oil has zinc added for the metal on metal contact zinc has been removed from automobile oil due to converter damage (all autos have roller cams now) you need the zinc with the trans gear to gear contact (zinc is a superior high perssure lube. Notice all motorcycle oil is JASO rated
Why pay $7.50/qt for Mobil 1 20W50 V Twin when you can buy a 5 quart container of Mobil 1 15W50 at Walmart for around $22.00. There isn't enough difference in the two oils to justify the cost difference.
agreed. i had 69K on my 01 using 15W50. i have 15W50 in my 09 now. check the specs, how much difference is there between 890 and 1200 ppm in same ingredients of the two oils? (examples only, not actual figures).
