i built my bike from frame up, it's not hard it just takes time and patience. especially if you don't have a shop and access to all the tools you're gonna need but no big deal....it can be done.
Yeah the wiring can be a real B*tch sometimes if your not proficient at that sort of thing. Then once you think you've got it all fingered out, Zap, Pop, Phhtt. Damn-it!!
in 1969 I totally stripped my 1960Sportster XLH down. she had 91,000 miles on her. didnt split the cases or do the trans. but got the jugs bored, did the heads, sandblasted the frame, custom painted the whole thing,rewired, and then upgraded the front end and new disc brakes. added some saddle bags too. then rode her another 61,000 miles.
its alot of work, but man what a great feeling to be rideing your own scoot.
