Always carry a 1st aid kit. Several good compact ones available at REI, Aerostitch and many other outlets. Mine has cold packs, tourniquet, antiseptics, bandages, and Ace bandage, Pepto and more.

I carry a small but pretty complete kit. Have to say something that people don't think about but is an awesome thing to have in there is a bottle of super glue with the brush. you can close a pretty good cut with super glue.
