American Iron, in the last two issues, installed a Screaming Eagle air cleaner last month, and this month, installed pipes, on a Sportster. Both articles had before and after torque and hp charts.
Study them carefully...... there was virtually no gain below 3,000 RPM for either modification, which is typically the result no matter what air cleaner or pipe change you make. In many cases, there is actually a loss of power. The stock units perform perfectly in the normal riding range....the gains are only at high rpm, or, as Joe Minton calls it, "Bar Stool Hp."
But when you need to pass that semi, going uphill, and crank on the RPM's, you'll be glad you made the change.
As I recall, neither of those two mods that AIM did included a tuner. In the Sportster article (May 2010), they specifically state that they believe that the 02 sensor bikes will recalibrate themselves (i.e. keep the bike lean).
