Default Shade Valley Campground

Hey all,
My group is looking at camping at Shade Valley Campground for this years rally. Their website looks good, but I would like some opinions and experiences from those who have been there. I see that it has a dirt road, which is not a biggie, but how is it when the rains come? Also, how are the showers/bathrooms at the height of the ralley. I just haven't seen too many reviews on it. Pros/cons from what you've either experienced or heard.

We stayed there last year. There are two shower/bathroom buildings on the property. One near the front entrance and the other more central to the camping. From where we camped to the nearest one was about a half mile and involved a creek crossing unless you went even further to take a bridge. No outhouses were nearby. So everytime we had to "go", we hopped on the bike and rode over. This was a major inconvienience in the night, especially for the women, as you can imagine.

Also, it's a long ways from town, about a 10 minute ride from the chip travelling at 75/80mph. So there is no advantage of the location. Actually the location sort of sucks, everytime you want to ride, or come home, you have to travel through town. Sturgis is between Shady acres and the interstate.

Personally I thought it was a bit of a rip. If you don't mind staying in a stubble field with no ammenities around then why not stay at the Chip? Or somewhere where there is something of interest going on. Then you're not always on the highway to go somewhere.

Next time I'll stay somewhere else.

Since Zues gave it a thumbs down, I'll give you my take on the place I stayed in 08. It's called Cottonwood Creek Camp. You can find a link to it on the sturgis website. It's a local farmer who turns his place into a campground just for the rally. They also turn one of the barns into a bar/nightclub and it's pretty nice (no cow smell). They have a band every night and serve beer at a reasonable rate. It's not a wild and crazy place so you can get a good nights sleep without fear of someone riding thru your tent in the middle of the night. The shower facility is nice, but the toilets are just an outhouse with 4-stalls and it gets ripe. They do a good job of keeping them clean though. The facilities are an easy walk from anywhere in the campground. It's about 8 to 10 miles North of downtown Sturgis and about 3-miles from the Broken Spoke Saloon. They have a few cabins, and RV hookups also.

I may try the Chip or the Broken Spoke next time just to be in the middle of the action next time though. In fact the Broken Spoke has a pool, and it's open to anyone even if your not staying there.

I stayed there in 08 (shady valley) Stayed in the RV section near the front. Bathrooms were clean, plenty of showers. The ride to town each morning was something i enjoyed and looked forward to each morning. It's quiet compared to the chip.........Thats how i like it. We did 200 to 300 mile trips each day,It was nice to be able to rest up each night without the non stop party noise from the chip. 10 to 15 min from town. If you want to go in town at night and get smashed, they have a shuttle bus. I liked Shady Valley,Nice People
