I had 16's on 2 inch riser on my Softail and felt like they were a little too tall, I'm 6'1" but I also have a Heartland kit on my bike which moves the seat back and down considerably. 16's might be fine on a bike with a stock configuration on the seat area. I'd say 14's give the tall look without being too tall.

I have an 18" set of bars I will sell ya for $100 plus shipping. I put them on my Heritage, and they are to tall for my short ***. PM me if you are interested. They have been on my bike for about a week now, and are brand new no scratches or anything.

I used ride 45 min to an hour but country roads, 60-65mph with turns. I go on a 4.5 hour trip to San jose every once in a while. I put my wind shield on for that stuff. Apes are not a touring handlebar, but I'm going for looks.
