We had planned to run 455 up to Montague, then 59 out to Jacksboro, 4 down to Santo, then play it by ear.
Turned south on 730 since the sun went away and the temps dropped down to 58. It was an "interesting" ride all the way to Decatur. Rather unnerving having to lean right in a left hand turn. Many times, I thought the gusts were gonna take my leather skullcap and goggles right off my head.
I don't mind riding on a windy or breezy day....but I do have my limits. They were met today. Although, the ride down 287 and 114 with the wind at our backs, coming home...that was nice. Very pleasant doing 70 with a wind of only 30 in your face.
I wanted to ride today ...... My skills are a bit dusty, so I decided to stay home in the name of safety. It sounds kinda lame, but there will be other days to ride.
doesn't sound lame to me.... sounds like a smart move.
there are only 2 limitations - the equipment and yours - NEVER EXCEED EITHER, and you'll almost always exceed yours before your equipment.
I wanted to ride today but knew that with a steady 25 to 30 mph wind and with gusts from 40 to 50 mph, it was going to be a fight just to stay on the road. With work being a pain in the a$$, I haven't had any oppurtunities to ride so far this year. My skills are a bit dusty, so I decided to stay home in the name of safety. It sounds kinda lame, but there will be other days to ride.
Not even a little lame. I got caught in some good 30 MPH gusting to 45's here in Virginia last year and can safely say I never want to do that again. Nothing fun about that ride, just a little bit more exciting than I like.
I just got back from a ride up in the local San Diego mountains. The wind was blowing pretty hard here too. I caught a few gusts that moved me around a bit.
I'd rather ride in the rain than a strong wind. The only time that I have been truely afraid on a motorcycle has been with 40mph winds gusting to 60mph.Passed a slower moving car and couldn't get back in my lane. Saw the wind "Rip" the bumper cover clean off a car right in front of me.. it feels like the wind could just "Sweep" your wheels out from under you..No Thanks...I'll take rain any day.
