I was just reading another thread title "riding armed" and it got me thinking in another direction. My leather came with removable armor in the shoulders and elbows. While I'm sure it adds some more protection ...it is quite uncomfortable. Is the added protection worth being uncomfortable? I know guys will say its a personal decision (like wearing a helmet). Just curious what others do.
My wife got me a jacket that had the armor in it. I wore it about three or four times before I jerked that crap out of there. That was the most uncomfortable jacket I had ever worn before I took them out. Now it is just fine. The shoulder pads are what was uncomfortable for me, made my shoulders sore. The elbow pads were fine, but I still took them out.
Good CE approved armor in a well fitting jacket is decent in comfort and can shure save you alot of grief and rehab in a slide. I am sure that going without a helmet, wearing a t-shirt and tennis shoes and fingerless gloves will be more comfortable but the added safety of full armour devided by the marginal added discomfort makes it a no brainer for me. I want and use protection when riding.
So far in 70,000 miles of riding I have not had to use it but most here say that you will at some point in your riding career. Why not be prepared
I have a FXRG jacket. The only armor I removed is the spine pad. That was terribly uncomfortable. The jacket is a pretty heavy duty jacket and I still have the elbow, forearms and shoulders still in it, so it should still do its job in a slide. I hope...
