As a Brit myself, can I maybe say something on this....?
Tis true there are more folks anti-Harley in the UK than pro them - however, and here's the interesting thing, of those that have nothing positive to say about HD bikes, riders, etc, hardly any of them have ever ridden one! Everybody over here (well it seems like everybody) likes riding plastic bikes from Japan - you know, 150bhp, 180+mph, 80% depreciation in 3-years!
Me, I only learned to ride a couple of years ago - I took my training and test at Rider's Edge in Wales and there was only ever going to be one bike I bought - a HD of course! I've ridden a Sportie for 2 years now and have a new '07 Heritage on order. Sure, I've looked at other bikes, but none of them did 'IT' like a Harley.
Just my thoughts - you know, each to their own, but I'm Harley through and through!
It's nice to hear the other side of the story. I would assume most riders over there want a lighter weight bike for handling the narrower streets, hills and curves.
I bet you get a lot of second looks on your Heritage.
Hi there guys, another Brit here, yep thats an old biased ad, however Harleys arent as common here as in the rest of Europe, people still prefer Jap crap and crotch rockets, but the Harley scene is growing fast. Just got back from the South of England rally yesterday, round trip of 700 miles, thats a long way on this crowded island. great rally 2000 people and virtually all Harleys.
Check out the web site www.sofer.co.uk and my chapter www.fenlandershog.com Lot of Yanks from the forces ride with us as Lakenheath and Mildenhall on our patch, made some good friends even when their tour ends and they go back home.
Ride safe out there.............................just cause I'm paranoid doesnt mean they arent after me!!
