Ever wonder why our front forks are measured in mm's? I know there are some people naive enough to think all the parts that go into our Harley's are made in the U.S. Engine plants, etc have suppliers, not all of those suppliers are in the U.S. What about the Dephi fuel injection? Speedometers? Harley like the auto industry awards the business to the lowest bidder that can meet their requirements. Who makes Harley oil? Who owns that oil company?
Facts?!?! Go to the dealer and look at every jacket on the rack. How old are your jackets? Theyre not made in the US anymore.
And the 40 years late comment just pisses me off!
He said frames and engines, everyone knows clothes are made overseas. And yes we are a little late in worrying about it now. Maybe not 40 years but at least 30. Nothing left to do but use the reset button.
Most apparel in the US is made in the far east. Very little textile in the US any more. If we continue the far left Obama way with cap and trade, CAFE and business regulation, there will not be enough jobs in the US for anyone to afford a HD. HD will have to not only produce in the for east but assemble also to be able to have a price point that the bikes can have some sales success.
Remember the cause of every problem in the US is by the actions of the 535 members of Congress. No one else period.
The suspension is Showa made in Japan since the 80's. The new owners after AMF did not have the cash to engineer the poor suspension that HD had so they out sourced. The instruments, brakes and many other components are out sourced.
I know that I will get flamed for this, but words cannot hurt me!
It is so sad that this country has allowed its manufactures to go outside our country, for the simple reason of not wanting to satisfy the labor unions. As a person who at one time owned a speciality retail clothing store, I for one know the cost of being in business. I had to close my shop, sell everything at auction and suffered a $250,000.00 loss. The USA has gotten to the point that almost everything is run by the labor unions. They make the decisions on how much you must pay the hired help, where you can locate your plant, etc, etc. Everything HD does has to be approved and discussed by the labor unions, and they either agree or they don't. You can google HD Mfg. plants on the internet and find several news releases backing up what I say. Now there are several mfg. plants for various things here in the USA and several assembly plants. If HD doesn't make it, then they either ship it in from overseas or pay a union plant to make it (which increases the cost 10 fold). To make a long story short, labor unions and our government leaders have sold our county out. You can't have the best of both worlds. We either pay other counties for their slave labor and get it cheaper, or we go back to the day when you earned the money that you made. Labor unions were a good thing back in the day of their beginning, but now, greed has taken over our country.
The problem isn't our unions, it's the nonexistance of their unions. Until their rights are protected along with the air they breathe, it's going to be one sided. Same with OSHA and the EPA.
Harley found out they can get clothing from over seas years ago and that exactly what they did. I think the term is step one.
I paid my dues to the SteelWorkers for nearly 8 years. I got busted in February of 2005 for a pot conspiracy, I was not even caught with a seed. The union wouldn't even fight for me to work at my job position until trial. No innocent until proven guilty. So fok the union. They wanted my dues, but when I needed them, on one other work related issue, they laid down. We had a man at goodyear who stole about half a ton of brass, got caught with an overloaded Toyota truck with the bed squatting and the tires mashed halfway flat. HE GOT HIS JOB BACK! So that is pure BS.
You found out about the giant conspiracy, too?????????? All those U.S. factories are indoctrination facilities and Harley's employees are really communists whose real job is to plot to overthrow our government!!!!!!
What should we do?????????

The "Made In China" issue for textiles is hardly the MoCo's fault. If they had all the accessories made in the USA no one would buy them because of the cost. Labor prices here are sky high for skilled labor, they have to sell at a price point that people can stomach and unfortunately for most textiles America can't compete. Not to mention that textiles are really becoming a lost art in the US. Most people have quit learning how to cut and sew, kind of sad.
