This bikes new to me so I dont no ..It got up to 86 today and the bike ran around 205 it went up to 220 for a few mins and then back down to 205. I run amsoil oil... is this to hot ? Im hoping my bikes not running lean I dont think so the plugs look to be ok........so whats ur 88 run at??? thanks
I hope ta heck MINE is running that cool! 250 for dino and 300 for syn as limits where additives begin to break down, according to the "labcoats" in here.
I put a couple fingertips on the tank: 3 second hold is about full heat on a summer day. If it scalds me, it's too hot, but I'm a carpenter and things, so my hands are on the tough side. My idle oil goes from a normal 8-10 lbs. to 0 lbs. at overheat, but it can go down to 0 and not really be overheated; it's just a warning to keep moving as I see it.
I found out in a traffic jam when it overheated. With Amsoil.
Mine is usually up around 200 on warm days. Might go up some intraffic. I don't look at the gauge too much. Ain't much I'm gonna be able to do about it anyway. It's the main reason alot of guys use synthetic in their Harleys.
02 Electra Glide Classic carbed,09 Road King Classic PCV,both have oil coolers and Amsoil is used, the 09 runs on the average 25 degree's warmer. On a 80 degree day,185 on EGC and 210 on the RK.
Depends......anywhere from 200-230....gotta be be really hot out,an' sit'n in a lot o' traffic (stop/go) ta get ta 230............it'll let ya know when it gets too hot.....it'll just "quit"
I have a HD Oil Cooler on my TC96 and it runs about 180-230 F depending on the temperature of the day and what kind of traffic I'm in. Everything's pretty much OK unless you see 255F+ as thats when the half life of the high pressure additives like MoSo4 start breaking down pretty quickly. That's not a function of Dino or Syn Oils . . . it's a function of the additive package. Dino oils may leave deposits at higher temps that aren't real good for the bike, but the real problem is what high temps do to the high pressure additive packages.
