Took the MSF BRC in April '08. I too was on a little Nighthawk 250 (I'm 6' 4" and 300 lbs). That figure 8 was tough...the handlebars would hit my leg. To take the class you had to first have your temp. permit ($20) and the class was $25. Learned I love to ride for $45.
Here in Central IL it's free. You pay a $20 deposit, then you CAN have it back after the class. OR you can donate it to the course and get a T-Shirt. Believe it or not a man and woman in my class a few years ago took the money back and left once they got their card.
Lucky you got in the Blo/No class. They fill up fast!
You're never too old to teach an old dog new tricks. MSF does a great job & their course(s) have saved many a life. I've used some of their defensive driving maneuvers every year when I run into some "distracted" drivers on the road.
MSF classes are FREE in PA. We apparently pay like an extra $10 or something when getting or renewing out motorcycle license. I took the Experienced course and thought it was awesome. I had my RK and another guy had an Ultra. We both scored perfect. Seems like the Touring bikes handled better than the smaller HD's and metrics.
I never have had the course, but got interested in it and checked out the web, I found this link http://msf-usa.org/index_new.cfm?spl...rCourse%20Info . It has a review on 48 questions, was interesting to take to see what I didn't know. It is a lot more indepth than the drivers handbook.
It's $240 or $250 here and you still have to go to the DMV to do the written test and they make you do the car test as well. Calif sucks on stuff like this.
the trick to the figure 8's is you an only get knocked on them once for the final, so if you put your foot down once you may as well put it down 50 times to stay in the box. or if you stray from the box you may as well go out 50 feet to keep from putting your feet down.
if you have time to practice the figure 8's before hand they're simple, but if you don't have the practice time you may not nail them on the final.
and prior to popular opinion not everyone who takes the course is gifted a passing grade. in my class two people dumped their bikes on the final and failed and had to come back in a week to retest, one guy dumped his bike bad during the cone slaloms during practice and simply walked away got in his car and drove away.
