Has anyone replaced their clutch and brake levers with the chrome levers? How hard of a job is this? From what I've seen in the shop manual it pretty much looks like a easy swap out. Any tips or suggestions on how to go about this swap?
I've had them off my '98 FXDS and it's easy enough to do.
Removing clutch lever:
1. loosen the clutch cable
2. Remove the circlip from the bottom of the pivot pin (careful with this so you don't lose it)
3. pull the pin out
4. install is the opposite of removal
Removing brake lever:
1. remove the circlip from the bottom of the pivot pin (careful with this so you don't lose it)
2. pull the pin out
3. install is the opposite of removal
4. stand back and enjoy what you've accomplished
I ordered a set of black powdercoated levers for my Glide. Everyone said it would be easy. I was lazy, and when I took it in for it's 5k, I asked them if they would put them on. They did for no charge (5k was about $140, they put the levers on and put a new LED taillight in for free basically!)
Installed the new chrome hand levers this afternoon. A very easy project, probably took about half an hour if that. Wonder what the stealer would have charged to do that. How much labor time, hour or two?
I assume it's pretty easy. Once I tipped over my V-Rod and broke the clutch lever down so I only could fit a couple fingers on it. [] Hubby put a new one on for me and it was easy. Got a new bike and will be changing out the aluminum ones shortly! Definitely wouldn't take it to a stealership - they'd probably charge you an hour or two!
