Default Need help figuring this out...
When i start up my bike (2008 Nightster), it revs up really high, for about 2-3 seconds, then goes back to normal idle. Anyone know what could be causing this? I check the throttle to make sure it wasn't stuck or anything it also does it cold start or not.

Thanks for any input.

Check your manual you may find this is normal.

Not sure, but if it is fuel injected this would be normal,WR.

+1 - Normal for EFI.

Mine does the same - they are right, it's pretty normal for the efi. If it doesn't quit after the engine warms for a couple minutes if you blip your throttle it will simmer down.

I don't know if it's normal, it sounds like i'm cranking down on the throttle as soon as i'm starting it.

Next time try letting your bike idle down before shutting it off. See if it still "races" next time you start it. I'm on a carbed bike, but remember someone saying that the FI might "remember" the rpm at shutoff. Just an idea...

I'm on an '06 TC 88 w/ EFI and it does not do that.

What are the rpms that you say "revs up really high"? 3K? 4K? Redlines?
