Default Trailer Question

I have a 7X14 enclosed trailer.....Homesteader EZ Rider dual axle to be exact and need to mount my wheel chock. There are factory installed D rings in the floor. What is the best location for the chock? ..... Have the bike centered over the axle?.......A little to the front? It's a Street Glide by the way. Thanks!

I have mine centered over the axles, seems to tow better that way. As far as the wheel chock goes I just used the largest fender washers under the trailer floor I could get. I did use stainless steal with all the thru floor hardware. I've towed over 10,000 mikes with no problems at all. What type of vehicle are you planning on towing with?

If its a half ton you may want to look into a weight distribution hitch or some ride rite air assist bags. I have a 7x14 tandem too and they can be a little heavy on the hitch causing the back of the truck to sag. Most of these trailers weigh in around 2200lbs and an 800lb bike adds up pretty quick. I went with both the hitch and the bags but the hitch is plenty to eliminate that plus you can get one with sway control which I'm glad I have on long interstate hauls.

70% of the load on the dual axle trailer is to be ahead of the axles. 60% on a single axle.

Take the curb weight of the bike and estimate the center point. With that point just over the lead axle, move it a little less than half of the distance between the center point and the the lead axle.

Get a scale and weigh the tongue weight which should come in at 10% of the load and trailer weight.

This is very important. If the weight is too far to the rear the trailer will sway as you tow. It will get worse if you go down hill.

Too far forward and the trailer and tow vehicle will pogo up and down more than normal.

I have set up trailers for decades and have had good luck with them.

I always recommend trailer brakes and equalizer hitches for dual axle trailers.

Here's my set up for a dual axle trailer.

Even with cross winds and semi's passing this holds the trailer straight.

For the hang around jerk. If you can match my annual riding of over 12K per year. Ride 8,400 miles in 14 days to the Arctic Circle with two days exceeding 850 miles, ride to 3-4 Rallies across the country per year like Laughlin, Sturgis, Daytona, Myrtle Beach, Auburn, Anamosa and others.

Then you can make your ignorant comments about trailers.
