i read threads like this all the time and i do not understand what is so difficult about the security fob?
lose your key, battery goes dead, forget your key, just enter the code..... it isn't rocket science. in fact if you look at it, it is actually better for you to have the system, at least that way if you somehow lose your keys in the middle of bf nowhere, you can still get somewhere (unless you've locked your forks too)
There is a card in the back of your manual with instructions on how to set your code & use it when needed. I carry it in my wallet. BTW, all bikes come with a preset factory code & if you don't reset it anyone can take your bike if you don't lock the ignition switch. All codes are the same from the factory. 1,2,1,2,1 if I remember correctly.
I usually never leave the keys anywhere near the bike. Wife got me a new sign for the garage that had hooks so my last ride ended by me hangin the keys on the new sign in the garage to make it useful, never again. I shoulda read the manual, now I feel like a real douche. Oh well, lesson learned

You're not the first (neither was I) and you won't be the last to do that. Yep. Just learn the code thing with turn the signal buttons or just change out the TSSM for a TSM and never have to worry about it again.
Bike will start with the fob within range and will continue to run.
As soon as you shut it off and try to restart without the fob being in range, you are out of luck.
Unless you know the code and how to set it.
Any idea if that's true on an '05 Road King Custom?? I really hate key fobs and planned on leaving it at home most of the time.
