I always downshift when I need to slow down. I'll stay in the lower gears riding in traffic in case I need some instant acceleration.

Try revving your engine when downshifting, and only downshifting one gear at a time. The increased RPMs when downshifting enable the the engine speed to synchronize with the tranny. Try it and see what ya think.

Thanks Guys,

Like I said im new too HD and the NT desn't have the tach so im still trying to learn each gear. The reason I asked this question is because sometimes I feel like I down shifted when going too fast and jacking up the rpm's too high.

But due to your responces I'll just ride the hell out of it.

Downshifting is fine as long as you are wearing a Harley t-shirt and leather chaps. If not equipped with the necessary items, for the love of god...whatever you do...don't downshift!

Yeah, blip the throttle as you pull in the clutch and enjoy the sound. It's one of the great joys of riding!

Yes, always blip the throttle every chance you can. It's really cool and will attract attention.
