I tried a similar product without much success. All it does is make it easier to turn your thumb wheel and it moves it less than a half of a turn. I just bought this one http://www.cruise-mate.com/Products_Harley.htm and it works great. More expensive but it actually works and is really easy to operate, even with heavy gloves on. Of course, I love their disclaimer on the installation instructions "only to be used for maintenance or warming up the motor. Not to be used when bike is in motion"
I'm thinking no. I have had a "break away" since '07 and luv it. push the button, it locks, squeeze the brake or push button and it disengages. Little pricey, but way cheaper than real cruise.
Have a cruise-mate my self. Love the thing, only complaint would be some times I hit it just enough by accident to drive my RPM up about 300-400 RPM's. Makes stopping a little interesting at times.
But I'm getting to check it out of habit now.
I made my own out of some 1/16" square steel rod. 2 bends, drill out a hole for a set screw, put a small self-tapping screw, and flatten out the tip and put a plastic tip cover from a pegboard hook on it. Works great, took little time to make, and cost basically zilch since I had the stuff laying around.
