I have a similar one that attaches with a set screw for 20 bucks. It works flawlessly on my 06 but I could not get enough travel on my 09 for it to work so I went with the cruise buddy, http://www.mcgcustom.com/, for the 09 & it is even better (more expensive too). The cruise buddy hangs lower so it clears my thumb better & it works in 1/4 turn. Highly recommended.
The one you have pictured looks fine to me as long as the star wheel will hold the throttle in less then 1/2 a turn. Like I said, worked on my 06 & not on my 09.
Had a similar little plastic lever (I figured that for $10 it was worth giving a shot). Worked reasonably well right up to the point where I engaged it and hit a bump at the same time. Knocked the bloody thing off when my thumb bounced since it was just a friction fit and now it's somewhere down the road. Oh well.
Definitely get something that attaches with a set screw or some other positive latching mechanism.
I have a metal throttle lock I bought on Ebay for about $10. Works fine. The only tricky part is setting it. you need to figure out where in under a half turn you can go from free moving throttle to enough friction to keep the throttle from spring returning...
I wish I could put a real electronic cruise on my bike, but the MoCo in their infinite wisdom has decreed that softails and cruise don't mix...
Yes I know there are various aftermarket units available. I don't want to spend $700 plus.... I am cheap!
