If you are looking for info on stolen or not, you're local police or state police can run the vin for you. For wrecks no reports exist. In fact, carfax is really reliable for vehicles. A repair shop is not obligated to report to carfax any repairs. I know this because I had a Ford Ranger that was re-ended and had over $13,000 damage, almost a total loss. However, when ever I checked carfax even after two years it still was not listed as ever being in a serious wreck or had major repair work. So, I don't bother with it. Better off using the ol eyeball and a magnet.

I'm with fishcop on this one. Nobody is forced to list repairs done to an automobile. Theirs no incentive at all to do it actually.
So unless i had issues with a customer or the insurance company listed it, I'd be willing to bet that half to three quarters of all accident repairs are not reported to carfax
