Thinking about picking up a rk or softail and got to have tunes.
Want an amped system and speaker system than I can add my iPod to. Want it clear enough to enjoy at highway speeds without a shield. Would love for it to equal if not exceed my factory egc.
Is something like this available at a reasonable price?
Well the June issue of American Bagger featured an article installing an audio pod on the inside of the windshield of a Road King. It's from Hawg-Wired and features 4 speakers. But I can't find it on Hawg-Wired's web site.
I just purchased a Pyle system on Amazon. I think it was the PLMCA30, 200w, and I paid @ $70. It's has handlebar-mounted speakers and a wiring harness that plugs right into the positive lead under the seat. I had to get some anodized one-inch "p" clamps from Lowe's for a $1.50 because the mounts they included were useless. I'm taking it out tonight for a test ride and will let you know the results. I do still use a windshield, though.
The dealership sells the next model up, the PLMCA60 with a 300w amp and P clamps, but I'll be they're asking $300!
Rumble Road from MH Instruments makes an excellent set of amplified speakers that can be mounted in several locations. I installed them and run them from my Zumo 550. Nice to have tunes on the Road King.
Hmmm, never really thought of something like these mentioned. I'm intrigued now and would also be interested in hearing others experiences. Subscribed.

PM forum sponsor and member JRK5892, he makes forkbag stereos @ 300 watts with 2 speakers. For any semblance of usable highway-speed clarity you are going to have to run a shield with the stereo due to wind noise interference.
Just got back from my ride with the new stereo. My stereo is NOT going to be the way to go without a windshield. I could hear it OK at speed with my ipod and the stereo up at max. I also am running V&H longshots, so they're fairly loud. I don't know how the 300w Pyle model would do.
