........... It's now illegal in Oregon to use the cel without hands-free devices, but even with those, I still don't think you're paying attention.
.
The law didn't change them, they are still using their cells without hands-free devices and still texting, they are just looking out for the LEO's so they don't get caught.
OP you are one lucky person. There are some seriously f**ked up people in cages that should never have been given a license.
You are a much better man than I am,cause if it was me, I'd take that phone shove it where the sun doesn't shine and than proceed to stick his f$$kn head right behind it.I'm just glad that everything turned out OK for you.Remember its always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6,but thats just my opinion.
NOPE!!!!! Not after seeing him laughing, blood will be spilled. Maybe, just maybe, if he had been begging for forgiveness for his stupidity he may have gotten a pass.....
Sometimes the reaction is just too quick!
I am afraid I would have seriously hurt him at the least. Trying to kill me gets you lots of attention. Laughing about trying to kill me gets you my undivided attention up to whatever level we take it.
I would have got off my bike and proceed to drag that fugger out of the truck even if his doors were locked and shove that phone down his fuggin throat until his eyeballs begged me to stop!
Glad to hear it turned out ok for you other than needing to do the laundry now.
15 years ago myself wife and kids aged 9 and 12 were going down the hiway in a brand spanking new Jimmy when we rounded the corner of a rock cut on the hiway and we T-boned here , flipped a half dozen times end for end and then over the guard rail down a rock embankment and stopped upside down on the edge of a drop off, talk about not being our time.
Ride on brother and enjoy.
I must admit it, my first thought was to pull him out of his truck and place his phone in an area where there is no reception. But I decided to release my clutch move on and make my left turn to my destination.
Usually when I read threads about "close call with cager" it turns out to be someone riding too fast or beyond their ability, or following too closely, and it degenerates into a blame-shifting rant. Given your description of events though, you really had no way of anticipating the situation or riding differently. Good on you for having the maturity to not cave in to the anger of the moment. As a fellow SoCal'er, I know it's tempting and I know it happens all the time. I guess all the Internet tough guys on here who say you should have kicked his *** live in areas where no one carries. One thing I've learned from years of riding... anyone who acts as irrationally as the driver you described can be counted on for more of the same. Write it off to experience and live to ride another day.

You probably still shake a little when you think back on it. The really frightening thing is the roads are full of people doing the same type of things. You'll be able to put the event behind you with just some angry feelings. Just think if you'd acted out on that anger. Where do you think you'd be today and what regrets would you have?
I think you did the right thing in getting into gear and going about your business. He'll probably mess up and have his accident with another cage instead of your bike. And who knows what kind of meds he might have been experiencing.
Did you want to drag him out and beat him to a pulp? Sure, most would. Are you alive today because he might've had a gun and used it trying to protect himself from a crazed biker? Never know but I for one wouldn't want to find out. Life is much easier if you stay out of needless encounters with mindless cagers.
Remember all the shootings here in SoCal a few years ago? The saying then was, "Drive like a wimp!" Better to get home safe than spend a few days in lockup or the hospital.
The weather is beautiful today. Take a ride out into the mountains. Or down to the beach. Enjoy your day.
