Default Is it really that difficult to do your own services?

I'm taking my 2010 Dyna Super Glide Custom in tomorrow for it's 1st 1000 mile service. It's gonna cost me $212.00 for synthetic oil. Which compared to the other dealerships around here, well, that's a steal. But damn, $212.00? Then they said I have to come back in 4000 more miles and do it again. They say it takes 2 hours to do it. Would it hurt anything if I did it myself from now on? I'm gonna let them do the 1st one, but after that, I will have to go another route. Any details and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. And by the way, if I do it myself, will that null my warrenty?

Buy the service manual and stat doing those things that you are comfortable doing. Changing the fluids is easy and cost effective and will not void your warranty. There is a lot of expertise here on the forum and videos abound on other maintenance items like clutch adjustment, fairing removal, ignition key removal etc. If you get to something you are not comfortable doing, you can always take it in.

It's way too easy not to do it yourself. You need your fluids, filter, a service manual, and a few basic tools. Just keep records of what you do and keep receipts for service items like oil, filters, and gaskets and you shouldn't have any problems getting warranty work if necessary.

The only thing I go to the stealer for is dyno tuning and when I find a reasonable indy shop or buy my own dyno (I know, never happening) I wont have a reason to set foot in that place again.

Servicing and general maintenance is easy enough to do once you get the hang of it. Pick up a manual and a good tool kit and a jack.

If it was difficult, I couldn't do it, and I've been doing my own service work for years.

Sounds like the dealer will make about $150 profit, minus labor. Just think what else you could buy with that money. It's easy to do and will NOT null your warranty. Keep your receipts and keep track of the date done.

To answer your question "NO" its easy as can be. you do need a ft lb and in lb torque wrench, service manual and proper tools..you can pay for this with the savings from your first service. just did my 5K service and it put me out $70.00 At the most, dealer wants closer to $350.00 or some such..do the math.
hmmm, someone should do a series of videos on a full service, start to finish.

get a service manual. It will tell you step by step how to do your own services. Even a Cave Man could do it!!!

HINT: JUST in case you've misst it above :
GET THE MANUAL !!!!!

Then commence ta savin' yur **** sum sereeus $$$$$. IMFUO, if you can't do yur own flooidz, yu reelee shouldn't be ridin' the dammt thang. BUT remember, THAT is JUS' MY FUO !!!!!

But from your post, I have determined you are
A) Coordinated enough to chew gum and walk at the same time, cause you're coordinated enough to put miles on the scoot.
B) Able to read and spell.
So, the ONLY thang stoppin' U, iz U.

Get yurseff a small plastic file box. Yu can keep the receipts in a file folder. Sum do it by tha munth, sum by the yeer. But dat wae, U 1/2 dem in chrome-ological order, jus' in kays U 1/2 a warranteee ishyou.

BUT the BIG thang, besides the $$$$$, you'll have yur hands on it, and more likely to find loose, missing, or EXTRA parts on it, B4 they become a MAJOR ishyou !!

STILL thinkin' o' takin' it in ???? Pleez bring it heer. I NEED the wurk and $$$$. Thanx !!!
