novus makes three different grades of polish.

Also don't use windex with ammonia it will fog the lexan.

Default Bugs, Ugh!

I use that SA8 detail spray. It removes the bugs, even old dried ones plus leaves a light wax coat that makes them easier to remove the next time. Also only use micro towels. I tried the pledge and it works but it seems to leave a "rainbow" effect on the windshield.

I guess you are talking about what to do on the road. Why don't you use Harley's Bug Remover that comes in a squirt bottle. You can put that in your saddlebags. Pull into a gas station and spray the bugs. Then carfully use the car windo cleaner squeege sponge and use lots of water. Softly rub it on the bugs and most will come off. Not the approved way but in a pinch what choice do you have? By the way, Lexan is a soft coating on plastic. It resists scratches better than plain plexiglass and the patent is owned by GE.

Man, you're not gonna keep a windshield scratch free for long if you ride any amount at all. We live lake front, and I ride along the lake every morning when commuting to work...you guys would crap a big 'un if'n ya saw my windshield right now...enough bugs on it to start my own entomology lab.

I've had good luck with Novus products removing scratches. There are 3 different grades. I've never needed to use the course grade but usually have had to use the medium and finish up with the fine.

Never use paper products on Lexan, or any other type of plastic lens. Most paper prodicts are made from wood pulp, which will scratch the plastic. Always use a soft cloth.

Bugs on a windscreen are a fact of life... just leave'em there until you can shower with your shield. If you can't stand to look around a few bugs in your line of site... use clean water and your hand... skin is non abrasive when used with water.

Been using just a wet micro fibre towel for three years now on the same shield. Bout once a month I wash it with with soap and water like the rest of the bike. Looks the same as the day I put it on.
Bugs are a fact of life and so are scratches and dents over time. I kinda like to ride more than clean. I wouldn't worry too much unless you belong to a shiny bike club.

+1 on the novus, it will clean it right up, makes a good polish on the clear coat too. I went down a few years ago and scuffed the crap out of the windshield. before I bought a new one I sanded it all down level and with a power buffer and starting with novus 3 and worked down to novus 2 it all came back like new . Novus rocks!

Dryer sheets and a little water will melt the bugs right off, fresh or days old. Carry them right next to my water bottles in the bag. Can clean the whole from of the bike in few minutes. Works miracles and does not scratch the wind screen either. As for scratches already there, either buy a plastic polishing kit, or just go to Fastaire and buy a new windscreen for $25. Usually get a new one in the spring, then mess around with the old ones, got a collection going lol.
